Starfish Initiative Incredible Journey Corporate Challenge Scavenger Hunt

mAccounting Director Nicole Wallace has been a member of the board of Starfish Initiative for the past few years. This organization inspires, encourages, and prepares promising, economically disadvantaged students for college and career success. To achieve this goal, Starfish pairs economically disadvantaged high school students one-on-one with college-educated mentors. mAccounting fielded two teams to compete in The Incredible Journey to College, helping raise funds and awareness for Starfish. The teams’ competitive spirits coupled with their strong analytical skills made it a fun outing for everyone. And the best part was being paired with student mentees. Proceeds from the event go towards admitting more students to the program and creating college scholarships for existing Scholars.

Mercy Christmas

mAccounting Director Cynthia Whitaker, and her husband Dennis have been hosting Mercy Christmas for over 10 years. The couple’s goal is to provide disadvantaged parents the opportunity to select Christmas gifts for their families. Cynthia and Dennis coordinate donations, shop for toys, clothes, books and groceries. Members of the mAccounting team help organize hundreds grocery bags full of holiday meals and cleaning supplies. The day of the event, a gift store is set up and parents have a shopping guide who leads them through the shop. Parents are able to select several toys, books and clothing items for each child. mAccounting elves help wrap gifts while the parents continue to shop with Dotted Line Divas Personal Care Pantry, a nonprofit organization that provides personal care items such as shampoo, toothpaste and detergent. When the parents leave, they have two bags of grocery items. mAccounting team members donate money, toys, and time to help make this event a success. Mercy Road Christian Church matches our donation and our combined contribution of over $2,400 provided a Merry Christmas to 209 disadvantaged children.

Ronald McDonald House

Like many of our volunteer initiatives, Ronald McDonald House is near and dear to our hearts. A few years ago Wendy, a member of our team, spent a lot of time at Ronald McDonald House because her young daughter was a patient at Riley Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, her daughter has recovered, but we’ll never forget the support that Ronald McDonald House provided to Wendy and her family. We return the favor to Ronald McDonald House by serving lunch to Riley families and Many mAccounting team members participate by preparing homemade lunches. Our most popular menu themes have been Italian and Mexican buffets. And while we have a number of great cooks who do the meal prep. Only a small number of people can participate in serving lunch, so we have to take turns.
